nVidia GeForce GTX 480/470 coming!

by D0M1N8R on Mar.26, 2010, under Gaming, Hardware, Uncategorized

I have to admit that I’ve been a little impatient with nVidia. I mean I was in the market about six months ago to get a newer video card but I held off because the video cards offered then were not DirectX 11 compatible. AMD had direct X11 compatible cards that were a little cheaper and faster than nVidia solutions but that meant spending quite a bit more money in order to purchase a new motherboard, memory, and processor so that I could use a AMD graphics card.

Then about three months ago I went ahead and updated my system but decided to keep my current nVidia graphics cards in a bid that nVidia would have the long-awaited direct X11 compatible card just in time for my savings to catch up and order to purchased one.

looks like this card is going to be released tomorrow according to many sources. my savings however runs a little short. This card will be mad expensive so I think I will sit on the sidelines for now and wait for the cards drop about $100

let me list down interesting sources.
1. Geek Smack has a interesting photograph of the GPU next to a coin for size comparison. Click here to take a look and keep in mind there is over 3 billion transistors inside the chip.
2. Gizmodo has a blown up image off the chips die. Click here to take a look.
3. Endgadget has a detailed list of specifications here.

and finally have a look at this video

Nintendo 3DS

by D0M1N8R on Mar.25, 2010, under Gadgets, Gaming, Interesting finds, Knowledge, Random News, Uncategorized

I have not posted in a while but this news has me a little bit excited.

Nintendo has announced that they will be releasing a version of their Nintendo DS with the capability of displaying 3-D without the need of any glasses. I don’t think that I will go out and buy a Nintendo 3DS ( although I might) but the main thing that has me a little excited is all the brand-new 3-D technology for televisions and computer screens require glasses. The fact that Nintendo is making a system that does not require any glasses may mean that we are a lot closer than I had thought to moving into 3-D projection without any visual aids.

we shall see in a couple of months exactly how visually appealing this technology really is on a cheap and portable gaming device. For all I know it may just be a fancy video capable hologram which is still a huge step up!

Codemasters: Grid

by D0M1N8R on Jan.31, 2010, under Gadgets, Gaming, Uncategorized

As part of the promotion for my hardware upgrade I got 3 Codemaster games. Grid, Dirt, and flash point. It was a little retarded that newegg didn’t just package the steam keys with the shipment of parts and instead shipped them via UPS.

Anyway been spending a bit of time on Grid and just wanted to share my experience. Lets get my system configuration out of the way first.

AMD vs Intel gaming performance

by D0M1N8R on Jul.16, 2009, under Gaming, Knowledge, Random News, Recommendations, Uncategorized

I think most PC builders realize Intel currently leads in the Processor performance department but when you are working within a budget I think you will find 9 times out of 10 you will get more performance for your money on the AMD platform. Toms Hardware website has posted such a comparison regarding in this case gaming optimized computer builds. Read it HERE

2008 Water Cooling Upgrade Project

by D0M1N8R on May.09, 2009, under Gaming, Uncategorized

Back in like 2007 if memory serves me correctly CompUSA was shutting down most of its stores one of which was in my location.  So having been interested in water cooling for a very long time and being exposed to close out prices decided to go ahead and purchase up on what I thought would be a great starter. Thermaltek Bigwater kit with CPU cooler only.

Later on in 2008 one of my GeForce 8800’s OC editions started over heating. Fan would kick on full speed and then drop every few seconds and when it did the video would freeze for about 2 seconds. Enough to be annoying and cost a lot of frags. TheInquirer at the time was reporting that the GForce GPU’s were failing all over the place. Having just paid about $300 per card decided to get some water cooling on the cards as well. Only problem is the water solution I had was not enough to cool cpu + 2 video cards..

So here are a ton of pictures with the rest of the story

World Record Frags within 60 minutes

by D0M1N8R on May.06, 2009, under Gaming, Random News, Uncategorized

Johnathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel is a famous gamer who has earned 10 world championship titles in 5 different games. Seems that record was not enough and he has achieved yet another record which will be entered into the Guinness book of world records.

Jonathan has set a record of 671 frags in 60 minutes playing Quake IV at Copenhagen eSport Challenge. Thats about 11 frags a minute or a frag every 5.4 seconds on average for 1 hour straight. Simply insane.

Just watched the video and Jonathan says 672 but on his site says 671..
